Addressing issues that affect YOUR health

Biological Dentistry

By Eric Davis on August 26, 2008

‘Biological Dentistry is about removing the stresses and balancing the chemistries - we are not treating the disease. The body, by design, heals itself.”

Biological Dentistry aims to be as non toxic and as non invasive to your body as possible.

This means:

  1. Providing you with a safe treatment that does not introduce or create any internal stressors. Biological dentists firmly believe that your body cannot handle the effects of toxic products such as mercury and that these substances are often the cause of some major diseases and health problems. Your dentist will test you for a product that is most compatible to you and one that will have the least influence on your immune system.
  2. As well, a biological dentist will investigate the effects of dental work that has used ‘traditional’ dental products (such as amalgams) in order to uncover any problems this is causing or may cause in the future. See the informative section on Electrodermal Testing.
  3. Your biological dentist looks at a complete health treatment plan to bring you to maximum health and keep you there.

Our Dental Protocols

The dental protocols at Eric Davis Dental are designed to remove as much dental toxicity in as non-toxic a fashion as possible.

A Total Dental Revision (TDR) includes the proper replacement of your mercury amalgam fillings and other fillings with biocompatible replacement materials.

Typically, you will receive a biocompatibility test to help determine the replacement materials that are least reactive and offensive to your immune system. Also any identifiable sources of dental infection will be treated. This always includes all cavitations, dental implants, root canal filled teeth, abscessed and non-vital teeth.

Additionally, any biologically incompatible crowns you have will be replaced with compatible ones. As well, all nickel (often present in stainless steel), will typically be replaced with more compatible metals, the choice of which is also guided by your biocompatibility test.

You will further be guided to undergo the best available measures to treat and possibly reverse any periodontal disease that may be present. Consideration to the final occlusion is also of primary importance. Intravenous vitamin C may be administered after the performance of the dental work to help neutralise any toxicity that still manages to reach the blood and tissues.

Biological Dentistry originated in Germany around the 1960’s. It is currently being taught in Austria, Sweden, France, Italy, Colombia, England, The United States of America, Australia and Taiwan.

The aims of this type of dentistry is to consider how treatments of the teeth and jaws will affect the immune system and overall health of the individual.

The areas that are specifically addressed with Biological Dentistry include:

  • Assessing the status of your immune system and its capability to maintain its function in your body.
  • Measuring the effects you may have from metal toxicity and its rate of release into your system.
  • Identifying hidden or residual infections including areas of necrosis and chronic inflammation -commonly known as FOCI or Dental Interference Fields.
  • Detoxifying your neural, organ muscle, connective and fatty tissues of residual toxic metal.
  • Identifying Electrical Currents generated from toxic metals in your system - known as Oral Galvanism ( a battery effect).
